When a host of pleasures stole my time,
When I engaged in smoking, drinking and sexing,
When I sowed the seeds of my foolishness,
When vices lorded over my tender heart,
When I forgot to heed papa’s words against such vanities.
But today is a new day,
When time must be of essence,
When the fool must learn to be wise,
When the gentle, wise and saintly must be sought for,
To know that life has the balance of joy and pain,
To heed the counsel of the elderly about booze, sex and friendship,
For strong wine is a mocker,
For rightless sex corrupts,
And unguarded friendship destroys.
